Die Gruppe der Greifvögel enthält 47 Tagaktive und alle vorwiegend Fleischfresser. Diese haben alle Hakenschnabel und kräftige Füßen. Mit eine Ausnahme, der Geier. Die meisten jagen und zerlegen selbst.
Die Gruppe der Accipitridae enthält die: Bussarde, Alder, Milane Geier und Weihen mit 34 Arten die größte Familie mit breite gefingerte Federn Flügeln zum Segeln oder auch "Gleiten".
Der Pandionidae enthält nur eine bei uns heimische Vogel, der Fischadler.. Diese erspäht mit Rüttelflügen Fischen, und mit einem Sturzflug stürzt Sie sich im Wasser.
Die bei mir als traditionelle Greifvögel geführte Falken, sind nicht näher Verwandt mit die oben genannte Gruppe und bilden hiermit die Gruppe der Falconiformes.
Die Falconidae: diese enthält 12 Falkenarten. Diese mit spitzflügelige Flügeln ist spezialisiert auf rasante Jagdflüge, die teilweise auch "Rüttelnd" aus der Luft nach Beute spähen und dann im Sturzflug, meist noch in der Luft erlegen "Schlagen" Oft verfolgen dieser Art die Beute noch längere Zeit. Der größte Falkenart ist der Gerfalke, und die kleinste ist der Merlin.
