Schmetterlinge

Butterflies

Doch was am meisten ihn entsetzt,
Das Allerschlimmste kam zuletzt
Ein alter Esel fraß die ganze
Von ihm so heiß geliebte Pflanze.

With almost 160,000 species, around 130 families and 46 superfamilies, butterflies form the most species-rich family after the beetles. They occur on all continents except for Antarctica. Almost 4000 species are represented in Central Europe.

I would like to quote a poem by Wilhelm Busch, through the beauty of butterflies

She was a flower pretty and fine,

Bloomed brightly in the sunshine.
He was a young butterfly
Who hung blissfully on the flower.
Often a bee would come with a growl
And nibble and whisper around there.
Often a beetle crawled kribbelkrab
Up and down the pretty little flower.
Oh God, like that to the butterfly
So painfully went through the soul.
But what horrifies him most
The very worst came last
An old donkey ate the whole thing
Plant loved so much by him.

Libellen

Dragonflies

Dragonflies are mysterious beings. They spend most of their life underwater as a larva. They only live for one summer as we know them: as dazzling flight artists.

Most species of dragonflies lay their eggs in water. The larvae develop from them. They have a hard shell and the pointed ends on their legs. Dragonfly larvae are small predators and prey on other swimming insects, fish and tadpoles. They spend up to five years under water. Since the shell of the dragonfly larva cannot grow, the animal has to shed its skin repeatedly. It then slips out of the old skin a little larger. Before their last molt, however, the larva crawls upwards on a water plant to above the surface of the water. After a few hours, a finished dragonfly fights its way out of the larval shell. Her wings are still all wrinkled and she has to wait a little before she can fly. But then it rises into the air and buzzes away. The adult dragonflies are also predators. They hunt other flying insects in flight. Some even eat their own kind. They grab their prey with their strong front legs and hold on to it. After mating and laying eggs, the dragonfly dies. From then on, the next generation will grow up in the water.
