Travel report about a fascinating area!

The district is characterized by the landscapes of Mecklenburg Switzerland, with the Mecklenburg Switzerland Nature Park and Lake Kummerow and the eponymous Mecklenburg Lake District with the Müritz National Park. Most of the lakes are connected by natural or artificial canals. Six of the ten largest lakes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania belong to the district: the largest inland lake in Germany, the Müritz, parts of the Plauer See, the Kummerower See, Kölpinsee, Tollensesee and Malchiner See. Overall, the body of water is 51.906 ha.

A travel report from May 27th to 31st, 2022!

May 27th at 4 o'clock departure from home towards Müritz. Via Prague and Dresden, we went to the Müritz. I reserved a place for three nights at the Wesenberg mobile home site. Arrival 4:40 p.m. with a short stop at the "Boeker Fischteiche" to look for the osprey. Unfortunately without success. It can also be stimulated again, so I didn't have the opportunity to photograph dragonflies.

On May 28th we went to the Feldbergerseen. Starting point entrance Boek and 15 km. cycled to the Priesterbäckersee. Here at the viewing platform the first white-tailed eagles were seen. Continue to the Dütschow Bridge viewpoint. There are various fish ponds (breeding). The first ospreys photographed crossing the ponds. Furthermore, the great reed warbler, lapwing, white-tailed eagle and cranes. Quickly buy something at the Netto for dinner and return to Wesenberg. The weather got worse again. Rain and wind at night 9 degrees.

On May 29th to the hotel and restaurant Altes Zollhaus, meeting point with another nature photographer to take pictures from the boat on the "Breiter Luzin". Here the famous shots of the white-tailed eagle with an eel. Further black-headed gulls, red and black kites, and an osprey. All baited with fish. Very nice shots possible.

In the afternoon we finally went to the Schreiadler Hütte. perfect conditions. Nice weather, sun and clouds. The lesser spotted eagles were apparently already breeding, as only the male came to fetch some of the bait from time to time. Around 5 p.m. I left the hut and still had the opportunity to photograph him flying. Return to Wesenberg.

30th May. Am von Wesenberg in the direction of Rostock to look for an osprey nest on a power pole near Damerow and Groß Köthel. Stayed along the A19 motorway.
